10 Dec The Inaugural Marie Thorpe Above and Beyond Award
New this year, Quantum Foundation leadership established the Marie Thorpe Above and Beyond Award to celebrate frontline heroes across Palm Beach County. Quantum Foundation will be awarding $5,000 annually to an everyday hero for their selfless services that go beyond the call of their duties.
“This award is established in the memory of our own hero of more than 22 years, Marie Thorpe, who always went above and beyond in serving others,” said Eric Kelly, president of Quantum Foundation. “Known by everyone who passed through our doors, Marie leaves behind a legacy of service, compassion, and care for her family, coworkers, and community.”
This year’s recipient of the Marie Thorpe Above and Beyond Award is Pastor Dan West at the completely volunteer-based Restoration Bridge International. From humble beginnings in 1980, in a church closet with canned goods, to incorporating as a public charity in 2005, Restoration Bridge International gave away $11.6 million worth of food in 2019 and is on track to almost double that figure this year.
“Pastor Dan works tirelessly!” said Tina Tutwiler, who submitted the nomination. “COVID and the overwhelming increase in need has not slowed him down but made him more determined to reach as many people as he can. He does not seek attention or recognition and likes to quietly bless. If he sees a need, he will do everything he can to meet that need.”
